One of the criteria was that these classic films had to be originally released prior to 1990.
12 Angry Men was deemed a courtroom movie because the jury's deliberation recounts much of what happened during the trial in the courtroom. As for To Kill a Mockingbird, even though the courtroom scenes comprise only part of the plot, they play a significant role in the film's themes.
